My Havaianas Slim Flip Flop is just another purchase from B&B Department store in Beach Haven, NJ. It’s all part of our tradition of going to the beach and scouring this little department store for great finds. We’re never empty handed. Or in this case, shoeless.
Really how much thought do you need for a flip flop? Not a whole lot, but certainly there are really flimsy flip flops, and there are basic flip flops, and then there are Havaianas. I think they’re one of the best flips flops available.
I love this particular style because it is indeed a slimmer profile and is definitely more feminine. They’re similar to Abercrombie and Hollister, but I’m 47 and I don’t feel like sporting flip flops my 13 year old daughter and her friends wear. And I hate that logo all over everything!
Havaiana Slims are, no surprise, all rubber. The footbed is firm, and has a curvy shape like a foot, unlike many others which are shapeless blocks. This is much more flattering. The thong is slim which also adds a feminine touch. I find that this flip flop is comfortable to wear and doesn’t bother me in between my big toe and second toe. Sometimes the thong is too thick or too long or too short and can rub you the wrong way. Havaiana Slims seems to know their toes.
I have a large collection of flip flops and I wear them all summer long. In fact, I’ll wear them as soon as the thermometer hits 60. I may be wearing a sweater and jeans, but I’m putting on my flip flops when I’m just hanging out. With that much wear, I prefer to invest a bit more on a quality pair of flip flops.
Quality flip flops? Yes, I know that sounds crazy. Kind of an oxymoron really. But if you’ve ever had a pair which broke while you’re walking, gone into the first store you see, purchased another cheap pair only to find that you can feel every pebble on the sidewalk, the footbed is so squishy, it compresses like a pancake, and you find gravel imbedded in the sole, then you understand the meaning of a quality pair of flip flops! I need my flips flops to withstand a lot of wear on all types of surfaces. I don’t care if it’s a Ritz-Carlton, I won’t ever walk on a hotel carpet, or go without flip flops in a hotel, or gym shower! They have to perform in water too. (oh you caught me there, I don’t go to the gym, I work out at home, sure.) I’ve had some which get water logged and that’s just …icky.
There are plenty of good brands, but I really like everything about this Havaina Slim. It’s plain, it’s available in a rainbow of colors, and although Havaianas is embossed on one strap, it’s not obvious. I don’t have to embarass my kids (or myself) by wearing Abercrombie. The assorted colors also include pearlized shades like silver and gold.
I certainly have other brands, but as of this review, I like this flip flop best. There’s plenty of cushion for comfort, but as I said it’s firm. Never stiff! I think this style is really nice for a narrow foot, but anyone should be able to wear them.
Last but not least, sizing. Expressed in Brazilian sizing, corresponds as follows: 35 (4-5 US), 37 (6-7), 39 (8-9) and 41(9-10). I bought down 1 size and it’s a great fit.
I purchased mine on sale for less than $20.00, but they retail for about $22.00. At havaianas.com, you find a complete selection at full price. Be sure to google for best pricing and colors. There are limited colors at various internet sources, and a wide range of pricing. Why overpay if you don’t have to?
