I take a low-key approach to my teaching wardrobe: polos, khakis, capris, denim skirts, and turtleneck sweaters comprise about 99% of the items that I wear to work. I’m not someone who buys or wears fancy clothes in my personal life, so I’m certainly not going to buy them for school. Give me practical, comfortable items and I’ll manage running around through my classroom directing labs just fine.

The same thing goes for my footwear. I don’t need it to be flashy or exclusive… I just want to make it through the day without blisters, sore feet, etc. Last August I bought two pairs of Dr. Martens sandals in an attempt to find something more comfortable and longer-lasting than the cheapo sandal specials I had been buying at Target and throwing out after a few months. One year later, I’m still loving my Dr. Martens Erica Slide Sandals.

About This Product

The Erica Slides have a broken-in leather upper with a cute cut-out flower design. The base is very low, lightweight, and covered in Scotchguard-coated suede. When most people think of Dr. Marten shoes, they think of super-thick and chunky soles and the ones on these sandals are anything but thick. In fact, if they didn’t have the obvious and tell-tale stitching around the uppers, you may never even guess that they were made by Dr. Martens.

I picked up a pair of these sandals on clearance for just $39.99 through the company web site. I was a bit traumatized when I opened the box up and discovered that I had ordered GREEN ones rather than the black I had expected. My clothing color palette includes white, cream, brown, black, charcoal gray, navy blue, pale blue, and, on occasion, pale pink. I don’t own anything green, red, orange, purple, etc. My immediate instinct was to return these sandals, but my sister eventually convinced me that I could wear them when I was wearing pretty much any of my neutral items.

My Experience With The Erica Slides

One year later, I am very happy with this purchase. Dr. Martens Erica Slide Sandals were extremely comfortable to wear straight out of the box and they still feel wonderful after many months of regular use. The Scotchguard coating on the suede soles does an excellent job of keeping them looking brand-new and protecting them from dirt, stains, and even odors. I do have to say that these slides start out slightly wider than the average sandal and seem to have stretched a bit over time. My feet are normal so I haven’t had much of a problem with the width, but women with narrow feet will want to avoid these sandals.

I’ve worn my Erica Slides with knee-length skirts, long skirts, capris, jeans, and full-length khakis. They look great with all of them. The flower petal cut-out adds a bit of “cuteness” to the shoes. I’ve collected many compliments on these sandals from friends, co-workers, and about a dozen students. I find it amusing that none of them suspected that they were Dr. Martens!

As I mentioned earlier, I picked the Dr. Martens Erica Slide Sandals up on sale for just $39.99. They have completely exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort and durability. I would be happy to pay twice as much for another pair because they are just THAT wonderful.
