Always on the lookout for a comfortable shoe that provides a bit of support and is sporty looking without looking too clunky, I decided I wanted a pair that I could just slide on my feet when I’m in a hurry, with no lacing up needed. Just slip them on and go.
Once again DSW shoe store came to my rescue. I had been looking around for a dressier shoe, hopefully made by Aerosoles, my favorite manufacturer of shoes who usually provides comfort with style, when I came upon the Easy Diving Mule made by Easy Spirit, another shoe manufacturer I’ve had good luck with. Though not what I had been looking for that day I tried them on and decided these were what I had been thinking of in the terms of a slip-on casual shoe. They fit the bill perfectly.
I was in luck since they had a good array of sizes available for this shoe but my normal size 7 was a bit big on me, luckily the 6 ½ was in stock and fit perfectly. It can be hit and miss at DSW, but that day was a hit. The price wasn’t bad either, I think they were marked down to $39.00.
These shoes are considered an athletic mule with an open ended heel which has a little ridge on the heel to hold your foot in place just a wee bit. I really can’t wear open heeled shoes anymore since my foot doesn’t send a signal to my back that it’s being supported and I find myself concentrating too much on keeping the shoe on which strains my legs and ultimately, my back…It’s a long story, but after two back surgeries, I just have too many limitations on what kinds of shoes I can wear.
But these seemed to be fine. That little ridge is a good thing for me. I went home happy with my new purchase.
This Easy Spirit Diving Mule, (did you ever wonder why they name shoes the way they do?), is very comfortable and so convenient. I wear them around the house a lot since they provide the cushioning effect I need for my tile floors and when I want to run out to do a few errands I just slip them on and away I go.
But I wouldn’t recommend them for too much serious walking or athletic endeavors even with the foot support it offers. I don’t think it’s enough support without a heel to really hold your foot in place.
The foam cushioned insole is removable should you want to take it out it but I see no need to do that…One more layer of cushioning is a good thing, as far as I’m concerned.
The entire inside is softly padded with a leather and leather mesh upper. The sporty styling features a criss-cross strap on top which can adjust the width to fit your foot perfectly and a Velcro closure on the outer side… The sole is rubber with good tread, about an inch thick at the heel and narrows towards the toe.
The one thing that I don’t like about them is, if I hurry or try to run while wearing them, you know, if trying to beat a rainstorm, my feet nearly slip out of the shoes which tend to make me feel wobbly until I firmly place my foot back inside. This doesn’t happen often but when it does I’m not happy.
They also don’t have much in the way of arch support. There is some but if you need good arch support I wouldn’t recommend these shoes.
All in all though, I do like these Easy Spirit Diving Mules, they are just perfect for running errands, going to the mall, just easy walking, they are comfortable and very convenient to wear with a nice look about them. I’ve had them now for more than a year and they have held up well without looking like they have much wear and tear…a thumbs up for this one. Just don’t run when you can walk!
