Over the years, I’ve become a fan of Softsoap Skin Essentials products. This hand soap, which comes in a plastic bottle with a pump dispenser, is great to have by the kitchen or bathroom sinks. It eliminates the need for bars of soap and the accompanying messy soap dishes, it usually smells good and lasts a long time, and it’s easy to find. Softsoap has also come out with some soaps that are actually good for moisturizing the skin. That’s what made me buy Softsoap’s Nutra-Oil Hydrating Hand Soap.

What is it?

Nutra-Oil Hydrating Hand Soap is a liquid soap with almond oil. Lest you be concerned that the oil will be noticeable, rest assured. It’s a non-greasy formula. This soap is meant to hydrate your skin without leaving it feeling oily.

My experiences…

I set up the hand soap in my bathroom, where I do a lot of handwashing (aren’t you impressed?). I like the way the pump is designed, with a wide shaped top that looks like a duck bill. The wide top makes the product easy to dispense. I pumped some of the product onto my wet hands. It came out as a rather viscous, pearly white, liquid that immediately made me think of snot during a bad head cold.

I lathered up the soap and noticed that the lather was pretty average. It wasn’t rich or thick, nor was it thin and watery. I found the product easy to wash off, though my hands were left feeling a little like they had chemicals on them. I didn’t notice them feeling particularly softer or smoother, but I did like the way they smelled. Nutra-Oil, which is made with almond oil, predictably smells sweet, like almonds and curiously, coconut.

Warnings

Softsoap would like to remind people who use this product to keep it away from their eyes. In case of contact, flush with water. I was surprised to see this product sans the usual caveat to keep out of reach of children. I guess that means Softsoap is non-toxic, though I’m sure it doesn’t taste very good.

Ingredients

Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Castoryl Maleate, Fragrance, Glycol Distearate, DMDM Hydantoin, Laureth-5, Polyquaternium-7, Poloxamer 124, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Tetrasodium EDTA. Sodium Chloride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Fruit Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Extract.

Overall

I think this product is effective enough, even if it does look and feel somewhat gross. I wouldn’t say my hands are softer than they’ve ever been, but they do look and smell clean. I haven’t had any viral illnesses in awhile, so I’m guessing it’s doing its part to keep me sanitary. I would recommend it, especially to those who like the smell of almonds and aren’t reminded too much of nasal secretions. On the other hand, for some people, that might be a plus.
