I have always been sensitive to the sun. If I walk out of the building on a sunny day I have to close my eyes and hold on to someone, even with sunglasses on. At the beach I have to close my eyes, wear sunglasses and a hat and drape a t-shirt over my eyes to be comfortable. My bedroom windows have blackout shades.

It wasn’t until a recent bout of Iritis (an inflammation of the iris) that my doctor told me that my extreme sensitivity to sunlight is called Photophobia. In light of (no pun intended) my new issue with the inflammation and never having been able to find sunglasses that actually helped me I decided to go on a crusade for the perfect pair. After visiting sunglass stores and coming up empty I researched the types of lenses that are most helpful for sensitivity. That led me to the Kaenon brand.

Kaenon was the first brand I could find that made a polarized coppery rose lens. I chose the Tobacco Grate frame with the C12 lens. The lense does not discolor your surroundings. In fact everything looks so clear and vibrant. Colors look enhanced. It’s like a high definition television. My vision is 20/15 and somehow they seem to help sharpen my focus.

The frames are quite large, but necessary for me. The wrap around and prevent sunlight from coming in from the sides and top. Fortunately, this style of frame is popular right now. I find that I get a little irritated behind my ears after I wear them for a awhile, but that’s a minor problem. Otherwise, my eyes feel so comfortable without having to squint and wipe tears from my eyes.

The glasses do not fold down very flat and the case is quite large, so they take up a lot of room in your purse. The one big problem I have is that the lens has fallen of several times. I just popped it back in, but I thought this shouldn’t been happening, especially for the price.
