My almost 3 year old daughter has an obsession with shoes. She is particularly fond of “cute” shoes with any sort of “girlie” look to them, but she’s not very good at walking in a lot of those types of shoes and they are not practical for her active lifestyle. Additionally, she has to wear closed-toe, tennis shoe style shoes daily to daycare in order to be allowed to play outside.

I had to get the Keds Girls Katie Mary Jane shoes. My other daughter is named Katie, which was only part of the attraction. I loved that these shoes were solid white and could match with anything - skirts, dresses, pants, jeans, shorts. I also loved that they didn’t have anything cutesy or detailing on them - in this case I just wanted a plain shoe. I loved though how Keds designed this shoe with a little girl’s flair in mind. They are a bit like a Mary Jane style, with the strap across and rounded toe. The strap goes on with velcro and there is a small detail of an imprinted flower on the tail end of the velco strap.

I think these are the shoes my little girl wears the most. They might not be her most favorite (so she doesn’t often pick them when playing or dressing up at home) but these are the shoes my husband and I are always reaching for when dressing her. She wears them easily and they seem comfortable. They are super easy to slip on and they really do stay closed. Since they are velcro she is able to put them on and off herself.

I have easily been able to wipe down the leather and clean these shoes. They are easy to keep white this way. They show wear in the leather by creasing and the like, all of which I think is fairly typical for this type of shoe. The velcro, while still holding, has seen better days. That’s my only real complaint with these shoes - we will not be able to keep them to wear for my younger daughter. The velcro has stopped “catching” on the tail end of the strap and the flower detail is starting to pull away from this backing. Though the shoes are wearable and do stay closed, the flower piece is starting to flap around some. I know that as our daughter outgrows these shoes in a short while we will have to trash them and won’t be able to keep them for her sister as we have done many of her shoes. I will say again though that these particular shoes do get the most wear and tear and that I feel this has a lot to do with why they have gotten so worn. The Keds Girls Katie Mary Jane is such an easy to wear shoe that I think we wear it so much and they’ve really gotten a lot of use!

For that reason I really do feel that we got our monies worth and do highly recommend them. We will be looking for a pair like them in my younger daughter’s size soon (as she’s now walking). These shoes really are very adorable and completely functional … I agree with the company, these really are a classic shoe!
