If someone were to describe my skin, probably the last word ever chosen would be “oily”. As a teenager, all of my friends were insanely jealous because I simply didn’t ever have breakouts. Oh, rarely I might get a very small whitehead near my nose or on my chin but I’m talking once every six months. I never had to see the dermatologist and endure painful peels and medications. I never had to slather makeup all over to try and conceal what was going on with my face. I’ve never bought a tube of zit cream and couldn’t even tell you the name of any of those products - I know because I can’t come up with one now, writing this review.
So, when choosing a Bio-Fresh Facial Mask from LUSH, the last product I wanted was one for oily skin. I wanted BB Seaweed or A Crash Course in Skincare or Catastrophe Cosmetic or Ayesha.
Instead, when I made my last purchase in a LUSH store, I was given a free sample of Cupcake that was nearing its expiration date.
Cupcake! Now just what was I going to do with that?
Of course, I couldn’t resist and actually tried the mask on my somewhat sensitive and somewhat dry skin. This was a mistake on my part because Cupcake does exactly what it is supposed to do which is to dry out oily areas to reduce breakouts, blackheads and other nasties. My skin was super dry and flaking after using Cupcake. Lots of moisturizer for a few days fixed everything but Cupcake is just not meant for those of us without oil and acne issues.
You see, the ingredients are rhassoul mud, linseed infusion, glycerine, talc, cocoa powder, cocoa butter, fresh mint, sandalwood oil, vanilla absolute, spearmint oil, peppermint oil and perfume. All stuff to dry you out. It does smell lovely, sort of like Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies. It was a shame to consider throwing what was left away.
However, Cupcake was not wasted. You see, later the same day, my daughter came home from camp and was complaining that her bottom hurt. I took a look at her rump and saw a giant boil on her butt. A boil! I do not know how she got a boil but she did. This thing was nasty looking. It was bright red and purple without a head and looked painful to even glance at.
The first thing I thought of was that I should try Cupcake on the boil. So, I slathered Cupcake all over her butt cheek. It looked like she had exploding diarrhea poo all over her bottom but I did not care. Seriously, plan to rinse Cupcake in the shower because this stuff is grossly messy. Twenty minutes later, we rinsed the Cupcake off her bottom and I put a gauze pad over the boil and sent her to bed.
The next morning, the boil was gone. Cupcake is my hero.
Now, Cupcake is way too expensive to keep on hand as a boil remedy, especially since it only lasts for about three weeks from the time of purchase and boils are not a very common malady in my household. However, it was very useful at the time and I was glad I had some to use.
