Until recently only one Method product has been available in my area (Alaska). I can find their liquid hand soaps (different scents) at my local Fred Meyer store, but when I want their all purpose wipes, I need to have my daughter mail me some from the Lower 48. That is, until I found them at Bed Bath & Beyond. Our first Target stores are opening on October 12, and I thought I would have to wait until then to get my Method fix, but now that Bed Bath & Beyond sells a nice variety I am thrilled!
I’ve used a few of the Method wipes before. I have their lavender scented and their stainless steel wipes, but when I saw this container that said Method Go Naked, I took a double take. Yup, that’s what the container says, “Go Naked”. I figured this must mean that there are no colors or fragrances in this version, and that was correct.
Description
These wipes come in a tall plastic white container, measuring 8.5″ x 3.5″, and it’s indented in the center, giving it a slight hourglass shape. The front calls these “surface wipes”. These are all natural wipes, with no added dyes or perfumes. They are a medium thickness and measure about 7″ by 8″.
Thoughts
I admit that I love the smell of Methods lavender scented wipes, but these are really nice to clean my counter top and the attached bar where we occasionally eat.
The canister is nicely designed, with the flip top cap, and the top allows me to pull out one wipe at a time, and they tear off easily so that more than one doesn’t come out. I’ve used numerous wipes that didn’t work as designed and I literally have to pull them apart with both of my hands … this doesn’t happen with any of the Method wipes, and their “X” shaped hole in the center of the lid is the reason why. When I pull one out and tear it off, there is usually only 1/4″ or so of the next wipe sitting there, ready to be pulled out - but not getting in the way of the lid snapping closed.
The canister only contains 30 wipes, which isn’t very many for the size of the tub, and I have seen ads showing the company making these Go Naked Wipes in a more earth friendly pouch, that uses 60% less plastic than this container uses. I can’t wait until Target opens and I can have access to the entire line of Method products, because if the pouches were available to me, I would choose them over the canister. I can’t even find the canisters at the Method website, so I am thinking they will soon be obsolete, to be replaced with the plastic pouches.
The wipes are made of a compostable bamboo fiber, corn alcohol, coconut/corn derived and biodegradable surfactants, soda ash, potassium hydrate, preservative (under 0.2%), and purified water. Bamboo grows extremely fast, and is a great renewable resource.
The wipes don’t look stark white like they have been bleached, and they are as strong as any other wipes on the market, and thicker than some I’ve used.
What I love about these wipes is that they really do not have any scent associated with them. I’ve found some unscented products, especially some diaper wipes, smell terrible. They actually add a scent to make some products unscented, go figure! Alas, these do not have any scent, and that makes them perfect for cleaning any areas where I cook and where we eat. I have used scented wipes and counter top sprays, but to tell you the truth, I always cringe a little bit about the scent, knowing I am going to be using the same space for cooking and eating.
Not only do these make great cleaners for counter tops, dining tables, and around the sink, but they also work great for cleaning kids toys. I only care for older children in my daycare home, but I do have four little neighbors who love to visit me and they tend to put my play silverware in their mouths, as well as some of the other toys. Two year olds seem to put everything in their mouths, and I feel good about cleaning my toys with these wipes.
The wipes are biodegradable and what ever I use to clean them with does not have to be rinsed because these are non toxic. As such they are safe for the skin and so no rubber gloves are needed either. If I have one gripe, it’s that the wipes don’t come out of the canister moist enough. I’ve had this issue with Methods scented wipes as well, but I have actually added a teaspoon of water to the canister and this actually works pretty nicely.
This canister sold for just over $4, and is a good choice if you are looking for an all natural, unscented cleaning wipe. I would recommend these for anyone with chemical sensitivities, or for those who have issues with scented cleaners.
