When the weather turns cool and the leaves morph into beautifully painted works of art, it’s time for one important thing to hit my plate: Pumpkin pie! Always a fan of the cinnamon-y smooth whipped cream topped seasonal treat, I was happy a few years ago to discover Bath and Body Works Temptations Pumpkin Pie Paradise 3 in 1 Body Wash, Bubble Bath and Shampoo. With this product, I reasoned, I could experience the joy of pumpkin season all year round! What could possibly be better? I popped the top open, gave it a quick sniff, and then a much longer whiff to breathe in the delicious scent. It didn’t take more than that second sniff to convince me to buy a bottle and bring it home to try out.
The Package
Bath and Body Works Temptations Pumpkin Pie Paradise Body Wash, Bubble Bath and Shampoo is available in two different sized bottles: A small, travel-sized 4 ounce version, and the full-sized 16 ounce bottle. If you’re a fan of pumpkin pie, you’ll want to invest in the full sized version, which runs about $10. The smaller size costs roughly $4, so the larger size is worth the extra money.
Both sizes features a light brown pop-up top and a label that features the name of the product written in a picture of a yummy-looking pumpkin pie complete with crust. The words ‘Whipped Cream Optional. Pure Bliss Guaranteed’ also appear on the label. A small red circular emblem near the neck of the bottle identifies the product as a member of the Temptations line. The bottle is clear, so the product is visible from the outside.
The Product
The Pumpkin Pie Paradise Body Wash, Bubble Bath and Shampoo is essentially the color of pumpkin pie filling, with a dash of brown mixed in, and it has a shiny, almost metallic sheen. The liquid has the same basic consistency as shower gel, though it’s perhaps a tad thicker, and has a somewhat drier feel to it.
As mentioned previously, the smell is amazing. I’ve smelled other products that claim to have a pumpkin pie aroma, but I’ve yet to find one that’s as true-to-life as this one. It actually smells like a fresh pumpkin pie sprinkled with a healthy hint of cinnamon. It may sound odd, but after I’ve used this product, I often find myself sniffing my arms just to conjure up images of fresh baked pie!
How it Works
This product has three intended uses.
Body Wash: To use as a body wash while in the shower, simply pop open the top, and squeeze a small amount onto a mesh sponge. It will work into a generous lather. Apply as you would any shower gel or liquid cleanser, and enjoy the aroma. It rinses clean and doesn’t leave a film behind like a lot of shower products do, but it unfortunately also rinses away much of the natural moisture in my skin. The scent alone makes me forgive this flaw, though buying the matching Pumpkin Pie Paradise lotion eliminates the issue.
Bubble Bath: To use as a bubble bath, add a few capfuls of the product to your running bath water, and enjoy. Just as it works into a generous lather in the shower, it will also create plenty of bubbles in the bath tub. Use caution if using around children; though it really does smell good enough to eat, it most definitely is not for consumption.
Shampoo: To use as a shampoo, work a few squeezes into your hair and rinse. I’m not impressed with this product as a shampoo. It leaves my hair dry, and the scent fades too quickly. Bath and Body Works should have made an accompanying Pumpkin Pie conditioner if they really wanted it to fly as a viable shampoo.
The Downsides
As mentioned above, it doesn’t work well as a shampoo, and it doesn’t moisturize; you really do need the lotion to feel moisturized and to keep the delicious scent from fading too quickly. In addition, Pumpkin Pie Paradise Body Wash, Bubble Bath and Shampoo is only available seasonally, so be sure to stock up if you see it this Fall.
