For most people, Skechers are the manufacturers of cloggy Doc Martin styled shoes, that are meant for the hip 16-22 year old crowd. While I’m well past those ages, and don’t particularly like those styles, I had to splurge on a pair of their sandals. They were on sale at Kohl’s for $39.99, and since I didn’t have something “cool” to wear during the summer, I decided to buy these for their natural air conditioning. They are meant for days in the sun with shorts and sunglasses, and while I tend to wear them while baking in sweltering August heat, most would find them acceptable for three seasons.

These are a bit more sophisticated to wear, than flip flops and an A-shirt, although they are to be used only for casual occasions. They are an attractive shade of brown, and the webbing style is fairly fashionable while allowing you to stay conservative. Each space of the open area on top, is only about a half an inch wide, so you can still somewhat hide the overgrown toenails and unappealing bunions with ease. The only part that is really open on these sandals, is towards the rear, where the ankle is located.

The comfort level of these sandals is incredible, and I’ve actually put them through several good sized hikes, around town and during a summer vacation. They provide a good amount of support to the bottom of the foot, while having enough strength around the ankles, to not scare you into thinking about a possible sprain. There is plenty of traction on the sole to keep you from slipping as well, although you might want to wear something more substantial through wet areas.

Durability is excellent, with the exception of the padding. This might be because I’m grossly overdeveloped at 220 lbs, but the padding has some tears in them after four months of service. Although this does not detract from the comfort, I am worried that this might cause support issues, and lead to these sandals being shredded after a few more months. For most this will be a non-issue, but it is something to consider, as they are otherwise fine sandals. The velcro and the straps that hold these sandals in place are first rate, and its so easy to adjust them to fit your feet comfortably.

I recommend these sandals for casual events, and think they are a good value for the price I paid. While they are not running shoes, they will provide enough support and stability for most around town tasks. They are a lot better looking than more expensive sandals, and I’m impressed with how even some of my overly macho friends have even thought about buying them. There is nothing better to wear on a steaming August day, and they even went into the ocean, and did not have any negative issues with the salty water. You can buy these at plenty of department stores, or order them through Skechers.
