I decided to purchase the feature-packed Philips Sonicare FlexCare Toothbrush RS930 with UV Sanitizer after listening to my sister’s rave about their earlier model Sonicare toothbrushes. Being one who loves to kill germs whenever I have the chance, the Flexcare model with UV sanitizer was a natural fit for me, especially give the promotional instant $20.00 Phillips brand instant rebate.
Prior to using this product, my dentist had me using a different toothbrush morning and night, and frankly, I did not always adhere to his directions, inadvertently picking up the wrong brush at times. However, I am very diligent about my oral care. In addition to brushing I use a water-pik type appliance nightly, called Hydro-Floss. Nightly I use MI Paste for my gums, which prior to this purchase, I massaged into my gums with my fingertip.
I purchased my Philips Sonicare FlexCare Toothbrush RS930 online at drugstore.com for $144.00 with free shipping. I also used a $10.00 coupon they emailed me and as I mentioned earlier took advantage of the Phillips instant rebate of $20.00. After a few days it arrived very well boxed packaged securely in blister pack type material which required a sharp scissor to open. Some might find the great effort to open this extensive package annoying, but I was happy to see such a secure packaging given my toothbrush had traveled many miles to reach my rural Maine location.
I appreciate the fact that it comes with a Full 2-year Warranty and a Philips Sonicare 90-Day better check-up guarantee. If I do not have better check-ups in 90 days I can return the unit for a refund. Also, I must say the unit looks fabulous. It is very modern in design and compact in it’s’ footprint- and we all know vanity counter space is some pretty valuable real estate for most women.
Included in the package I found: 1 Sonicare toothbrush, 1 ProResults standard brush head, 1 ProResults compact brush head, 1 UV sanitizer with integrated charger, cord wrap and brush head storage, 1 Travel charger, 2 Hygienic travel caps, 1 Luxury soft travel case (nothing luxurious about it, actually), 3 Additional color code rings, a quick start guide, registration card, coupons and an instruction manual.
I immediately followed the quick start guide, set the unit up to charge and sat down with the user manual with visions of dying oral cootie bugs dancing in my head- germ-a-phobic’s dream come true. Given the recent medical information linking heart disease and gum disease, I was ready to brush with sanitized heads morning, noon and night. According to the manufacturer, the UV Sanitizer kills up to 99% of E.Coli & Streptococcus Mutants.

The directions are clear, straightforward and easy to understand and implement. As soon as the unit was charged, which took under two hours, I put on the standard head, wet it as directed and applied paste into the bristles. I had heard from other users its best to keep the unit turned off until it is in your mouth to prevent the paste from splattering all over the bathroom mirror- a very good tip. Next, I had to decide on a cycle. The Flexcare has the following cycle options: Three Flexible brushing modes: clean, sensitive, massage and two Personalized cleaning routines: Go Care is a 1-minute brushing cycle for a quick clean and Max Care lasts three minutes for an extended care routine. I chose the Max care setting with the sensitive brushing mode. These options are simple to choose from with a press of a button, very simple, very nice.
The FlexCare features a rubberized and ribbed grip and feels very natural in hand. When I turned on the Flexcare I was startled because I was no prepared for the sensation. It tickled as it quickly vibrated in my mouth, and I had to take it out of my mouth to stop from laughing. I was not sure I could get used to the unusual sensation of the ultrasonic action in my mouth. I decided to press on and get back to brushing and ignore the tickling feeling. Initially I wondered when reading the users manual why the unit came pre-programmed with a feature which ramps up the ultrasonic action gradually so that the first thirteen times you use the unit it gradually gets up to full power- kind of like training wheels for the new Sonicare user.
I quickly became used to the sonic action of the Flex direct, I couldn’t help notice how comfortable it felt in my mouth, and then the Quadrapacer kicked in. I want to note that I think theQuadpacer option is amazing. It is an i nterval timer encourages thorough brushing of each quadrant of your mouth. It divides the brushing cycle into four equally timed segments and pauses slightly between segments to let the user know it’s time to brush another quadrant of the mouth. I especially appreciate this feature because I often skimp on the inside quadrants of my mouth- none of that with the Quadpacer.
When they cycle completed, the unit shut itself off. I rinsed the unit off, dried it, removed the head and put it in the UV sanitizer compartment and turned the U.V. cycle on with the touch of a button. The Phillips logo light up a great blue color when the U.V. sanitizer cycle is active. When it is time to brush again, simply press the small button to open the U.V. sanitizer compartment’s door. The toothbrush is well sealed and very hygienic. I can see no place for mold or mildew to collect, which is an improvement from earlier models from what I understand. I took a moment to examine my teeth and noticed the stain on my upper canine tooth, which I had for years, was gone. My dental hygienist was never able to remove it, and now it was gone. I ran my tongue across my teeth and felt as if I had a professional cleaning. They felt very smooth and clean.
I was exceptionally satisfied with the unit. I sat down, began to look through the coupons that came with the unit, then it hit me. The MI paste I had been massaging in so laboriously each night would work perfectly on the massage setting. So, I took the smaller head, loaded it up with MI paste and chose the massage setting. I was beyond pleased to see how easy and gentle this cycle is, and my gums felt wonderful- quick, simple and effective. After several days of use morning, noon and evening, I have to say I really love this appliance. My teeth feel and look great, and my gums are pink and healthy looking. I used to have occasional bleeding of the gums, but that no longer is an issue. I am fully satisfied with my Philips Sonicare FlexCare Toothbrush RS930 with UV Sanitizer and would strongly recommend it to others considering an ultrasonic toothbrush.
