Long gone are the days of baby wipes but there’s still a definite need for something that’s premoistened to clean off hands, faces and other body parts. Tommy always has a container of these in the truck and I always laughed at him when he’d pull out the large cylinder shaped jog and use a few of them. “Laugh now, one day you will be begging me for one”. As much as I hate to admit it, he was right. We met up for lunch one afternoon and I found my face covered with ketchup and relish after downing a burger in record time. Out of napkins and a quarter mile from civilization I had to use a Wet One, and yes, he did make me beg.
What are they? They are a lot like baby wipes only a little stronger, dispensed from a round tall container and don’t have the cool baby wipe smell to them. The container says that they are safe for all body parts [external only] but I’d be really hesitant on using this on a baby because of the alcohol in it. Even though it has Vitamin E and aloe in it to moisturize, I still wouldn’t want to use it on a baby’s bottom. They are strong and don’t fall apart when you are wiring off your face or hands and they don’t leave behind any lint. You might get a rogue string from the end or when it’s pulled through the prong in the middle but other than that, its an extremely easy product to use.
I started getting these a few months ago and I do have to admit, they have come in extremely handy when we’ve been out and about and you find yourself with some mystery goo on you. Be it remnants of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or dirt from boxes, the Wet Ones tackle most types of dirt. The only thing I had trouble with was motor oil and Italian dressing. The Wet Ones did get it off my hands but I had to use four or five of them. For general messes, dirty hands, chocolate covered faces and drive-thru disasters, they work a hell of a lot better than the old school ‘napkin and a little spit’ method.
Getting the roll started is easy; just push a wipe through the blue prong at the top of the lid and you are set. When you pull one out the next one is automatically fed through the prong and sits there waiting to be used. They should make the snap on lid a little bigger though, if you pull the next wipe out too far you can’t snap it back on. The up side is that lid is on a strap so you never have to worry about it getting lost. Kids can open it easily but they might have a little bit of trouble pressing the round lid back into place; you’ll want to make sure that it is closed properly so the remaining wipes don’t dry out.
You only get 40 Wet Ones per container but since they are a little larger tan your average baby wipe you do get a good amount of use out of it. If you are a clean freak you might start twitching slightly when you wipe off your hands or face with one of these and see the amount of dirt that it’s removed. They are sold everywhere from grocery stores to Wal-Mart and Target with the average price being in the $1.79 to $2.19 range. They aren’t the cheapest way to go but they do stay moist in the container and do a good job of cleaning up dirty bits and pieces until you can get to a bathroom.
Kids can use them with no problem but you will want to tell them to dispose of them in the trash. The container says that you can flush them but only one at a time. Id never risk it so they always go in the trash. From now on I’ll never have to wipe my face on my shirt or have sticky hands when I’m driving. Wet Ones are a nice thing to have in a vehicle or when camping and this hunting season you can bet I’ll be taking at least one of these containers with me.
