This might be too much information, but there’s a reason I use gel deodorant — the hard, pasty stuff gives me a rash, especially Old Spice. The problem with gels is that they tend to leave you with a wet feeling if you apply too much, especially Right Guard (if you ask me). Recently, though, I’ve switched to Gillette, and been trying each scent as it comes.

Currently, I’m on Power Rush, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to stick with it.

Gel can make you paranoid; often, because they are counter-intuitive to dryness, I’ll be tempted to roll too much of it on to protect against sweat for sure (I’m Italian; it’s going to happen). With other gels, I’ve noticed that if you roll on too much, the deodorant smells seeps out of your clothes like a terrible cologne; the subtlety that you need is gone. Not Power Rush.

It didn’t smell like anything when I popped the cap open in the store, and I took that as a good sign. I trusted its antiperspirant/deodorant to do its job without adding any excess smells. When I got it home and peeled off the foil cover, though, I definitely noticed a scent that intrigued me. Honestly, it reminded me of Bacardi 151. Thankfully, though, when you roll it on, it just smells . . . vibrant. Subtly vibrant, like a toned-down aftershave. Kind of energetic. However, it’s not so strong that your dog will charge to your armpit to find the source of the smell he’s discovered. Overall, wearing it has been pleasant, even moreso than any of the variants on “Cool breezes” that (in my opinion) plague the deodorant industry.

The price is reasonable, the smell is understated, and it keeps the sweat away and keeps me comfortable — so when I’m done with my current round of Power Rush, I’ll go for another one. So far, it’s the most eminently usable of the gel deodorants I’ve tried in the past several years.
